Local SEO basics for Debrecen SMEs: where to start before you spend money on ads
Series: AI marketing & local SEO for SMEs · Part 1 · Next: Website + AI content (Part 2) · Google Business Profile (Part 3)
Most Debrecen business owners do not contact us because they “want SEO”. They contact us because the phone is quiet, quote requests are scattered, and they cannot tell whether Google Ads, Facebook, the website or the Google Business Profile is missing — or whether everything is simply switched on in the wrong order.
Local SEO is not magic. It is the work that helps someone in Debrecen (or Hajdú-Bihar county) find you when they search for a specific service — and not only click, but call, message or request a quote. In this first part of the series we cover where your business stands now and what to fix before you invest in more expensive channels. For a full view of what we deliver, see our services.
What local SEO actually is — in plain language
If someone types electrician Debrecen, car service near me or marketing agency Hajdú-Bihar, Google roughly looks at three things: whether you are relevant, whether you are close enough, and whether people “know” you (website, reviews, other signals).
That does not mean stuffing the city name into every sentence. It means making it clear what you do, for whom, where and on what terms. If that is inconsistent, even the best ads will not work reliably — which is what the article on five Debrecen marketing mistakes is about; I raise it with many clients at the first audit.
Why ads should not be your first step
Google Ads and Meta ads work for Debrecen SMEs. But if the website is slow, service names are vague, and the phone number differs from the Business Profile, clicks stay expensive and quote requests stay low.
Think of local SEO as the foundation. It is not flashy, but everything else builds on it: on the marketing system in Debrecen page we follow the same order — foundation first, then scale. When you are ready to scale paid traffic, Google Ads management in Debrecen sits on top of clear offers and tracking.
Step 1: NAP — same name, address and phone everywhere
NAP (Name, Address, Phone) sounds boring, but it is where many local businesses fail. The website says “Tóth Ltd.”, the Google Business Profile says “Tóth & Partners Ltd.”, and Facebook only shows a phone number — Google then cannot be sure it is the same company.
Check side by side:
- your website footer and contact page,
- Google Business Profile (if you already have one),
- Facebook / Instagram,
- business cards, invoice header, email signature.
At one Debrecen workshop we found the workshop address on the website but a PO box on the Business Profile — customers looked up opening hours on the map. Small mismatches mean lost calls.
Step 2: understand what the customer is searching for
Local SEO is not a keyword list; it is about intent. Some searches are urgent (e.g. burst pipe Debrecen), some are comparison (e.g. website prices Debrecen), some are trust (e.g. recommended accountant Hajdú-Bihar).
Write down 5–10 real questions clients actually ask on the phone or in messages. Those become strong page titles, FAQ blocks and later blog topics. AI can help you spin variations quickly, but the source should always be your own client conversations — not a generic “top 50 keywords” list.
Step 3: have a clear service map
If the site has one “Services” block with everything in it, Google cannot see what you are strong at. For a Debrecen marketing company, Google Ads management, website development in Debrecen and local SEO each match different search intents.
Minimum goal: every main revenue-driving service gets its own page or at least a clearly titled section. If you do not yet have a proper site, read what we summarise for acquisition-focused builds — design alone is not enough — on the Debrecen website page linked above.
Step 4: measure something commercial, not just visits
If you only look at traffic, you cannot tell whether local visibility works. For Debrecen SMEs these numbers usually matter:
- how many calls came from the website / Business Profile,
- how many forms / Messenger chats became real quote requests,
- which service page brings the most enquiries,
- how fast you respond (yes, that affects ratings and indirectly SEO).
If nothing is measured, fix that first — otherwise in Parts 2 and 3 you will not know which change actually worked.
Quick checklist: ready for the next step?
Before jumping to Part 2 (website + AI content), review this list. It does not have to be perfect, but if several items are red, start there:
- same company name, address and phone on the site and Business Profile,
- at least three concrete services described separately (not just “consulting”),
- readable, fast mobile site — or a conscious plan if you do not have one yet,
- at least five common client questions you also answer online,
- you know where enquiries come from now (referral, Google, Facebook, other).
Where AI helps at this stage
AI is not here to “write your website” in one shot. It helps you quickly review service names, try alternative phrasing, draft FAQs and compare what competitors write — without hours of manual research.
Output always needs editing. Your experience, pricing, guarantees and Debrecen references are what differentiate you. Part 1 of the chatbot series for SMEs covers a different topic but the same logic: clarify what the client asks first, then automate.
What comes in Parts 2 and 3?
Once the basics are in place, Part 2 covers website content and AI-assisted copy — how to make a page searchable, credible and converting at the same time. Part 3 continues with ongoing Google Business Profile management, as already developed in its own article.
If you prefer not to assemble this alone, beside other posts on the SME Blog you can request a short local SEO review via the contact form. For conversational automation after content is clear, see chatbot SME Part 2 and AI chatbot in Debrecen.
